Sri Chakra Mahameru Peetham is the seat of Mahameru and Sri Chakra worship established in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh.Bilaspur was formerly known as Vilasapuri and is an ancient center for Shakta worship.The pontiff of the Sri Chakra Mahameru Peetham,HH Sri Sri Sacchidananda Tirtha Mahaswamigal is an Advaita Sannyasi in the lineage of the Shankaracharya tradition. He has taken Sannyasa Diksha from HH Sri Sri Ishwarananda,Tirtha Mahaswamin and is a devotee of The Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham. Swamigal has established the Sri Chakra Mahameru Peetham in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh State 20 years ago. He is affectionately referred to as ‘Bilaspur Swamigal’ by his devotees.The Aradhana of Sri Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswati Mahaswamigal or Mahaperiyava is conducted very month on the occasion of Anusham as well as a grand annual Aradhana, in which a Chandi Homam is performed and Annadhanam arranged for 25,000 people.Swamigal is in Chennai this year and is performing the annual Chaturmasya Vratam at Adambakkam from the 16th of July and will be performing Chaturmasya Vratam until September 14th. Sri Matham's camp is at Raja Vinayakar Bhakta Mandali premises, Brindavan Nagar, Adambakkam. During this period, every day starts with a lecture on Shankara Bhashyam by Mahamahopadhyaya Mullaival Krishnamurthy Shastrigal. There will be daily Chandramoulishvara Puja followed by Arati and Tirtha Prasadam at 10:30 AM. Besides, special pujas will be conducted on pradosham and for Krishna Janmashtami.

Matham's Twin Focus

The Matham’s twin focus areas are thus:

  • Revive Vedic learning among young children that are from families with a legacy as Vedic scholars ,but in which such learning has fallen out of favour due to improverished circumstances.
  • Work for the spiritual and social welfare of the marginalized tribal sections of society.


Rejuvenate humankind by protecting and propagating Sanathana Dharma according to the ideals of the Mahaswamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.


The various initiatives undertaken by the Mathama are:

  • Shrividya Veda Pathashala – A traditional Veda Pathashala in Bilaspur where 63 Vidyarthis are pursuing Shukla Yajur Veda Adhyayanam in the Madhyandina Shakha Kamakshi Goshala – 46 cows, that have been rescued from slaughterhouses are being taken care of.
  • Sri Sachhidananda Vidyalaya – a school with classes from the 6th to the 12th Standard, affiliated to the Chhattisgarh Education Board, with 100 students and 7 teachers. It has classes in the Chhattisgarh Sanskrit Medium, with all regular subjects prescribed for 10th and 12th Standard.

Welfare Programs

12 Villages around the Ashram have been adopted by the Matham and the following welfare programs are being run :

  • Regular Eye Camps for surrounding villages.Kanya Vivah Initiative – Many of the families in the region are below poverty line and find it hard to conduct marriages in a timely manner. The Matham identifies deserving families and gives a grant of Rs 5000 and vessels for the young couple to start their lives.
  • Deserving families are helped with all samskaras of live – Samashti Upanayanam, Marriage and even support in conducting last rites for bereaved families.Gifts for struggling families to help them celebrate traditional festivals – Deepavali, Holi and Navaratri.
