HH Sri Sri Sacchidananda Tirtha Mahaswamigal (Bilaspur Swamiji)

HH Sri Sri Sacchidananda Tirtha Mahaswamigal is a Advaita Sannyasi in the lineage of the Shankaracharya tradition. He has taken Sannyasa Diksha from HH Sri Sri Ishwarananda Tirtha Mahaswamin and is a devotee of The Shankaracharya of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham.

Swamiji has established the Sri Chakra Mahameru Peedam in Bilaspur, Chhattisgarh State 20 years ago. He is affectionately referred to as ‘Bilaspur Swamiji’ by his devotees.

It is his mission to establish Sanathana Dharma firmly in the center of today’s India for the benefit of mankind at large. The causes of empowerment of marginalized sections of society are very dear to his heart. His selection of a rural region to locate the Matham reflects this commitment.

Swamiji was born and brought up at Salem city, in the state of Tamilnadu, India in a traditional Tamil Iyer family. His father’s name is Shri Shiva Swamy Iyer and mother’s name is Shrimati Lalita.

Being the eldest child in the family, from his early childhood he used to take a keen interest on protecting and safeguarding people. It would be very apt here, to recall an interesting event that happened in his adolescent age.

By reading Sloka books and guidance from his father, he had learn Maha Rudram at a very early age. It was raining non-stop for more than a week. Day by day, the flood level was increasing. Observing the misery it brought to the people, Swamiji (in his early teenage), started chanting Rudram for 1008 times! What would nature do with a child’s unwavering resolve for relief? The minute his chant ended, the flood started to recede! For a very brief moment, his family saw a glimpse of his Divine ascension.

Swamiji completed his school education at Sri Ramakrishna Sarada Vidyalaya, Salem and completed his undergraduate degree at Annamalai University.

Either school or college, Swamiji used to have regular Darshan and blessings of HH Sri Shankaracharya (Mahaparivar) of Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt. Many would have believed if he had told them that he was studying at Kanchi Kamakoti Mutt. Such was the frequency of his visits! Maybe it was destiny that was showing the young child his future; Many years later, Swamiji took Sanyasa from Shri Ishwar Anand Tirtha of Kashi and become the pontiff of Sri Chakra Maha Meru Peedam, Bilaspur.
